Post Hi. New here with a question.
Hello,

I would like to take this opportunity to say hi to everyone. Just joined and am excited to be here. I would like to start off with a question. I just bought a 2004 Wrangler X with a straight 6 4 liter in it. It seems to be in great shape however it makes a clicking noise in the morning for about three to five seconds when it is first started in the morning. Sounds like a dry lifter or valve. Am I right? It only does it in the morning after sitting all night. I drive it to work and in the afternoon when leaving, the clicking isn't present. What can I do about this and what is the problem if my guess is not correct? Again, I am so glad to be here and any help will be appreciated. The motor only has 79k on it. Thanks again

If you think it is inside the engine, I would change the oil, using a good quality oil of your choice. My experience is that the 4.0L doesn't really like synthetic oil. I had some high metals in analysis when using Mobil 1.

Might change it a couple times running it say a 1000 miles at a change. See if that helps.

There are some additives that could help a problem like this, but I'm not a fan of additives.

My TJ sometimes makes a little clicking sound when it first starts up, but I tracked to the MAP sensor. It's not very loud and only lasts a few seconds. Not sure what is in there that would make a noise, but if I disconnect it, the noise goes away. Of course, that triggers a check engine light and code. Rolling Eyes

Thanks much. It mysteriously stopped making the sound. Runs like a new vehicle Very Happy
